They work in perfect harmony. FC Barcelona and Sevilla FC. The Catalan club is the Andalusian outfit’s best customer, and the Sevillians are Barcelona’s prized suppliers – a mutually beneficial business relationship in which both parties reap the rewards.
Many players have now swapped Seville for Barcelona to play their football: Dani Alves, Adriano Correia, Ivan Rakitic and the latest arrival, Aleix Vidal. Relations between the clubs go back a long way, with Seydou Keita the first to make the switch in the last eight years.
Sevilla are the envy of all with the impressive players that they are capable of turning out after scouring the markets far and wide. Their ability to make low-cost signings and develop them in-house has been proven time and again in recent years, largely thanks to the excellent work of their director of football, Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo “Monchi”, who is in charge of putting together a squad which improves with every passing year.
The fruit of this labour is that when the transfer window comes around, Sevilla never fail to draw the attention of a host of clubs, both in Spain and abroad, who are keen sign players of the quality of Alves, Adriano, Rakitic and Vidal. Matchday 26 will be a special one for this group, as they prepare to take on the club which introduced them to LaLiga and shaped them into the stars they are today.
