The table gets tighter and the end of the season draws nearer as the teams give no quarter in their fight to achieve their objectives. The month of April has drawn to a close, and with it six thrilling matchdays of Liga BBVA action. And, just like every month, the writers at LFP.es have chosen the division's ideal eleven.

In goal

With just three goals conceded in six encounters, Jan Oblak played a key role in Atlético Madrid regaining third place against Córdoba CF on matchday 29 before extending the gap between themselves and fourth. Displays such as the one he produced on matchday 34 against Villarreal CF at the Estadio del Madrigal have helped Diego Simeone's men to pick up points that move them closer to the target of UEFA Champions League qualification.

The defence

A team-mate of Oblak at Atlético and a summer signing like the Slovenian goalkeeper, Jesús Gámez has made los rojiblancos' left flank hostile territory for opposition attackers, despite not playing in his usual position. He is joined on the opposite side of defence by FC Barcelona's Dani Alves. Now in his seventh season with los azulgranas, the Brazilian continues to perform to the highest level, and this term has made 28 appearances adding up to a total of 2,344 minutes.

The centre of defence is formed by Daniel Carriço of Sevilla FC and Elche CF's David Lombán. With five goals to his name, Lombán is enjoying his most prolific season in front of goal with los ilicitanos and is Fran Escribá's side's second top scorer. Meanwhile, Carriço picked up his first goal of the campaign this month when he found the net against Rayo Vallecano.

Barcelona are the club boasting the most players in April's eleven, with three

The midfield

The team's midfield brings technique, class and goals. On either side are Valencia CF's Sofiane Feghouli and James Rodríguez of Real Madrid, players whose goals have helped their clubs to wins. The Algerian scored twice in April, in victories over Levante UD and Granada CF, while the Colombian netted once each in triumphs against UD Almería, RC Celta, Málaga CF and Rayo Vallecano. They are accompanied by Sevilla man Éver Banega, whose strike against Barcelona launched his team's comeback at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán in a clash that ended 2-2.

The attack

Lionel Messi takes his place up front in the Liga BBVA's all-star line-up for the sixth consecutive month. The Argentine, who scored six in April, breaks records week in, week out with his goals and assists, and has now hit the target 40 times and set up 18. Making his first appearance in the ideal eleven is Luis Suárez (five goals during the month), who has adapted perfectly to the Catalan outfit's play in his maiden campaign in the Liga BBVA. The attack is completed by Antoine Griezmann. The Atlético Madrid number '7', who notched up three braces in April, has 22 goals this term – the best haul of his career.
