Sevilla FC 1-0 Olympique Lyonnaise

Sevilla secured an important victory in front of their own fans in their second Champions League group game. Luciano Vietto and Samir Nasri came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half but they had to wait until the second period for the break-through.

Wissam Ben Yedder sent the home fans crazy when he headed in from close range after 54 minutes, scoring his first goal for Sevilla in European competition. Steven N’Zonzi’s deep cross was headed back across goal by Vietto and the French striker bundled in from underneath the crossbar.

When Nasri was fouled for a penalty soon after they had the perfect chance to double their lead but Vietto blazed his effort over the crossbar. Sampaoli’s side lie second in Group H with 4 points, the same as Juventus, but with an inferior goal difference after two games.

Borussia Dortmund 2-2 Real Madrid

At the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund two sides played out a pulsating clash. A freekick from Cristiano Ronaldo and one from Gonzalo Castro for the Germans tested the keepers early on, and it was the Portuguese forward who quickly made his mark. After 17 minutes, a backheel in the area from Gareth Bale set Ronaldo up and he buried a fierce shot in the net. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang levelled after a freekick was parried by Keylor Navas and he just managed to beat Raphael Varane to the loose ball.

Real Madrid pushed hard after the break and when Karim Benzema crashed a shot against the woodwork, Varane was on hand in the goalmouth to score the second in the 68th. With only three minutes to go, Borussia Dortmund grabbed an equaliser when André Schürrle arrowed a shot into the top corner. Madrid are second in Group F with four points, the same as Dortmund, who are top due to their superior goal difference.
