Some tension, plenty of joyful celebrations and lots of goals. Those were the sensations brought by a matchday filled with emotions and on which top billing went to Real Betis, who are back in the Liga BBVA. Los verdiblancos earned yet another win to secure the objective that they had set themselves at the beginning of the season, on a weekend when their two strikers, Rubén Castro and Jorge Molina, once again found the net.
Castro’s exploits saw him consolidate his position as top scorer in the division, an award which – barring a surprise of astronomical proportions – he has all but sewn up. With his two goals against AD Alcorcón, the Canary Islander is now on the towering tally of 32. Team-mate Molina also kept up his good form in front of goal, his effort taking him to 19 for the campaign and lifting him to fourth in the scoring charts. The duo are the most prolific strike pairing in the Liga Adelante since the 1956-57 season – in short, figures that have had a massive hand in Betis achieving promotion to the Liga BBVA.
Meanwhile, the other two marksmen who make up the Liga Adelante’s top four goal-getters also hit the mark. Borja Bastón got R. Zaragoza’s opener from the penalty spot as his side left it late to earn a 1-3 win over R. Valladolid CF , while Sergio Araujo’s brace helped UD Las Palmas to all three points against a FC Barcelona B outfit who gave no quarter right to the end. All this means that los maños’ striker has a total of 23 goals and is in second place, while Araujo is on 21 and stays in third. With 18, David Rodríguez rounds of the table of the Liga Adelante’s table of leading scorers.
