Jonathan Pereira scored goal number 1,000 in Liga BBVA this season during Villarreal CF against Rayo Vallecano in the 37th round of fixtures. The spanish scored the symbolic goal in minute number 55 in the game played at the Madrigal.
It has taken 361 games, spread out over 37 matchdays, for Liga BBVA to reach 1,000 goals.
There have only been 30 games up to now that have finished 0-0. Only in matchday three did three games finish with the same scoreline as when they started. On the other hand, round 11 of fixtures hosted the game with the most goals; Real Madrid's 7-3 triumph over Sevilla. Meanwhile, round 14 was the top scoring weekend of fixtures with 42.
Without doubt, the main protagonists in reaching the magic number have been Liga BBVA's top scorers. Cristiano Ronaldo (31 goals, Real Madrid CF), Leo Messi (28, FC Barcelona), Diego Costa (27, Atlético Madrid), Alexis Sánchez (18, Barcelona) and Karim Benzema (17, Real Madrid), amongst many others, including Antoine Griezmann (16, Real Sociedad de Fútbol), Aritz Aduriz (16, Athletic Club) and Kevin Gameiro (15, Sevilla FC) have all played their part. A special mention must go to Seydou Keita of Valencia, who in matchday 30 scored one of Liga BBVA's quickest ever goals against UD Almería after 7.70 seconds.
Scoring goals is a sign of success, and sides like Real Madrid (101 goals), Barcelona (99) and Atlético de Madrid (75) are the three top scorers, and are fighting it out for the Liga BBVA title. Following this trio is Sevilla FC (66), who have fought until the end with Athletic (65) for the final Champions League spot. There are still 20 Liga BBVA games to be played, and in those you can be sure there will be plenty of emotion, drama and the sauce of football: goal.
