LaLiga and China, a union that crosses borders

Yang Yu, from PPTV, the channel that broadcasts LaLiga in China, reviews the joining of forces set up by the competition to become the main attraction of the Chinese public.

LaLiga is already the first and the most important league in the world, as evidenced by the official annual ranking of the IFFHS. PPTV, one of the largest Chinese companies, has also become the largest online video communication company in the world; and the union of both gives rise to a powerful giant that seamlessly combines football, spectacle and entertainment intended for the most demanding public.

From this season and for the next five years, PPTV provides the complete development of Liga BBVA to the regions of mainland China, Macao and Taiwan. So although LaLiga came to China later than the Premier League, Serie A or Bundesliga, its interest has exceeded its pursuers.

According to statistics, the word "La Liga" is searched daily a 2.1 billion times, a number that, for the most part, is typed by Asian users. And rightly so, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are the most popular clubs among known European clubs in China.

On the first matchday of competition it became clear the large colony of Chinese fans who got hooked on LaLiga from the start. And that is that in just the first weekend of the championship, PPTV recorded six million viewers. Something that indicates the strong interest in the Asian country for LaLiga and that keeps growing in recent weeks.

Although still no Chinese player has made his debut in Liga BBVA (Xu Xin did so with Atletico Madrid in the LFP World Challenge Tour and against Shanghai SIPG), the partnership created between the Spanish competition and China is reflected in multiple actions of sponsorship, advertising and joint projects.

Shang Yi put the Chinese flavor when he landed in Liga Adelante in 2004. This course, Chengdong Zhang joined Rayo Vallecano to continue to show that Asian football is constantly growing. So much so that, so far, 16 of the 20 teams in Liga BBVA have Chinese capital from their accounts and the 2015-16 Liga BBVA has managed more than 100 million of Chinese investment for this season.

What PPTV managed with the international sharing of LaLiga´s rights is not only the right of traditional broadcasting, but also the rights of complete media, including television, new media and web site. In addition, its broadcast signal comes five seconds earlier with regard to the signal emitted by CCTV and among its secret stunts is the Libero, the great tactical analysis system. All this results in unprecedented bilateral cooperation that puts LaLiga and China at the center of the football and audiovisual universe.
