LALIGA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Chad have formalised a consultancy agreement aimed at contributing to the development and professionalisation of football in the African country through a multi-year, progressive project.

The project seeks to support Chad through a progressive process of transformation, from strengthening its capabilities and structures to consolidating tools and methodologies that generate a lasting, sustainable impact. The combination of talent, training, methodology, governance and knowledge transfer will allow LALIGA’s experience to be adapted to the specific needs and priorities of Chadian football.

The agreement will combine LALIGA’s experience and methodology with local knowledge and capabilities, with a focus on talent identification and development, training, and the strengthening of Chadian football structures.

As part of this collaboration, H.E. Nair Abakar, Minister of Youth and Sports of Chad, accompanied by a delegation, visited LALIGA’s headquarters in Madrid today. During the visit, the collaboration was formalised, LALIGA’s main areas of work were presented, and a session was held with the team responsible for the project to move forward with planning the next actions.

The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Chad, Naïr Abakar, said: “Our ambition for Chadian football is to give our young players the right environment in which to develop, enable our clubs to grow and make our league more competitive. We have chosen this partnership with LALIGA to help fulfil that ambition. It combines recognised expertise in professional football with the local knowledge and commitment of our football community. Together, we want to build a programme whose results can be seen in players’ careers, coaches’ work and the day-to-day life of our clubs.”

LALIGA President Javier Tebas stated: “LALIGA is delighted to be able to support Chad in this project. The consultancy projects we carry out in different parts of the world allow us to share our knowledge and methodology, always working hand in hand with local institutions and professionals and adapting to the particularities of each country. Through this collaboration, we want to help generate knowledge, capabilities and tools that can continue to develop sustainably over time”.

“This collaboration represents an opportunity to put LALIGA’s knowledge and experience at the service of football development in Chad, working alongside local institutions and professionals to build solid and sustainable foundations. We want to support this process from a comprehensive perspective, combining talent, training, methodology and the strengthening of local capabilities, so that the knowledge acquired remains within the country’s football ecosystem and contributes to its long-term development”, said Trésor Penku, Managing Director of LALIGA in Africa.

A first phase focused on laying the foundations

The first phase of the project will focus on establishing the foundations on which the subsequent stages of the collaboration will be built. The main lines of work include a national talent identification campaign and the definition of a monitoring system for the players identified; technical advice on the design and structuring of the future National Academy; training for coaches, directors and sports managers; and a strategic diagnosis of the local league, together with recommendations and a roadmap for its transformation.

This first stage will be essentially structural in nature, with the aim of establishing a common methodology, strengthening local capabilities, gaining a detailed understanding of the needs of clubs and competitions, and defining the conditions required to undertake, in a second phase, a broader operational implementation.

The subsequent phases of the project will focus on progressively advancing the transformation of Chad’s football structures. Planned actions include the operational roll-out and consolidation of the future National Academy, ensuring continuity in player identification, training and monitoring processes. The project will also make it possible to move forward with implementing the recommendations defined for the league and the clubs, as well as standardising processes and transferring knowledge and skills to local professionals and teams, with the aim of building capabilities that endure and contribute to the long-term development of Chadian football.

A collaboration with a long-term vision

This initiative represents an unprecedented collaboration for LALIGA in sub-Saharan Africa and reinforces its commitment to sharing its experience and knowledge to contribute to the sustainable development of other football ecosystems.

Through this collaboration, LALIGA continues to put its experience at the service of developing football ecosystems internationally and to strengthen its ability to work alongside local institutions on projects aimed at generating knowledge, professionalisation and capabilities that remain in the territory.

LALIGA has extensive international experience in developing sports projects, with more than 1,000 projects promoted since 2015 in 60 countries around the world. Over these years, it has worked with federations, leagues and clubs in Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia, putting its knowledge and methodology at the service of developing their sports structures.

This knowledge is backed by a specialised Sports Projects team based in Madrid, made up of professionals holding the highest UEFA Pro qualification, with club experience and international careers, as well as specialists in areas such as methodology, psychology and physical conditioning.
