A glory-flavoured point for Espanyol

It was a 1-1 draw between RCD Espanyol and Villarreal CF in a fixture on matchday eleven of the Liga BBVA that could have gone either way.

A clash between two teams that know how to defend the spaces at the back but who knew exactly what they wanted to do with the ball at their feet. That was how the first half went, with the two side exchanging chances, and with Villarreal taking the lead through a goal from Mario Gaspar, one of the stars of the first 45 minutes who shortly after came close to claiming a second goal for his team.

After the break, the home side went out with more intensity to close the gap and they threatened with a great header from Colotto, which the side from Castellón cleared from under the posts. In a tactical battle in which Sergio González and Marcelino García Toral moved their pieces, the game approached the final whistle with the score on 0-1 to the Yellows. The Blanquiazules pressed in the dying moments and earned a point with Diego Colotto’s goal in injury time. With the draw, Espanyol climb to eleventh place, while Villarreal are eighth.
