Why are the Nàstic players called 'granas'?

References to playing kit in the football world are very common and this is another of those cases. The word 'grana' means deep red, the colour of the Gimnàstic de Tarragona shirt. Getting back up to la Liga Adelante after three years was difficult for Vicente Moreno’s side and one of their main strengths has been the fans, also called ‘granas’, who turned up every weekend at the Nou Estadi.

The supporters of the Catalan team, who are about to enjoy their 19th season in la Liga Adelante, are also often called 'nastiqueros', a name which comes from the team’s short-name: Nàstic.
