Who was he? A Brazilian central midfielder who played for RC Deportivo de La Coruña for 13 seasons between 1992/93 and 2004/05

What is he remembered for? A standout figure in Deportivo’s history, he won Liga BBVA with the Galician side in 2000, the Copa del Rey twice (1994/95 and 2001/02) and the Supercopa de España on three occasions (1995, 2000, 2002). Along with Bebeto, he is one of Deportivo’s most well known foreign imports.

What became of him? After hanging up his boots in 2005 in La Coruña, the city where his eldest son was born, he created a consulting company for investors in construction HQ’d in São Paolo.

Did you know? In 13 seasons at Depor, Mauro Silva only scored once. The goal came during his second campaign, 1993/94, in the 1-3 victory away to Valencia on 15th of January 1994.

In the 1999/2000 season he played 33 times as the Galician club won their first ever Liga BBVA title. Mauro Silva was part of the starting XI who defeated RCD Espanyol to seal the triumph on 19th May 2000, a day that lives long in the memory of the club’s fans.

The Brazilian defensive midfielder played 369 times in Liga BBVA during his time with the side from La Coruña, and also won the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the USA.
