Previously… Juanma López (b. Madrid, 1969) was a Spanish footballer who played for eleven seasons at Atlético Madrid, the club where he came through the youth ranks. Though his natural position was centre back, he could also operate in the flanks or midfield.

His achievements… With the Rojiblancos he won three Copas del Rey and one Liga BBVA and was a participant in their double in 1996. He earned eleven international caps and won a gold medal with Spain in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

After hanging up his boots... He retired as a player for his lifelong club in the 2000-01 season after appearing in 156 Liga BBVA encounters. He is now an agent for footballers.

Did you know…? He was very popular with the Colchoneros fans who gave him the nickname ‘Superlópez’, like the comic book hero.
