Who was he? Juan José Jiménez 'Sandokán' (Cadiz, Spain, 27th of July 1957) was a football player who honed his skills in the neighbourhood of Astilleros and represented Cádiz CF between 1978 and 1982. During his four seasons with the club, he played 109 games as right back and scored twice. Upon leaving the Yellow Submarine he joined Real Madrid. He left the Spanish capital in 1985 to return to his hometown club (Cádiz), where he would finish his career as a player.
Why is he remembered? For his fighting spirit and mobility around the pitch. He marshalled the right wing with ease and never shied away from a tackle. His knack of penetrating the right side of the pitch, thanks to his natural ability as a winger, made him a real asset in attack.
What became of him? After hanging up his boots in his hometown club, the legendary Cádiz no. 2 became a pipe fitter, working along the Cadiz coast. However, he didn't completely turn his back on football, as he still continues to play for the Yellow’s veteran team.
Did you know? He was given the nickname Sandokán because of his long hair and his resemblance to a well-known character on an adventure show.
