Villarreal CF lift the Iberian Trophy

FC Utrecht 1-1 RCD Espanyol

FC Utrecht surprised Espanyol just six minutes in. Sebastien Haller hit home from a corner to put the home side ahead, and the first half ended with the Dutch side in the ascendency. However, Quique Sanchez Flores's men reacted after the break. With the second half only just underway, Jose Antonio Reyes netted an equaliser and the scores remained level through to the final whistle.

CD Mirandes 2-2 SD Eibar

Same script, same outcome. Eibar gave the ball away close to their box with five minutes played and Mirandes jumped on the opportunity to make it 1-0. However, Eibar turned things around in the second half. First Kike fired home a cross in from out wide, and then Unai Elguezabal headed in the second. Mirandes levelled the scores with a minute to go.

Sporting Clube de Portugal 0-0 (3-4 pens) Villarreal CF 

Marcelino's men had a tough time beating Sporting Clube de Portugal. So much so, that they had to wait until a penalty shootout. There was nothing to separate the sides during the 90 minutes of regular play. Neither team managed to finish off their chances and the game went to penalties, with Villarreal coming out on top 4-3 and proclaiming themselves champions of the Iberian Trophy in Badajoz.

UD Las Palmas 0-1 CD Tenerife

The first leg of the Mahou Cup brought us the first Canary Islands derby of the season. The game played at the Municipal de Maspalomas remained goalless virtually through to the death. Marko Livaja clattered the woodwork in the 82nd minute and Tenerife responded with a goal, with Darixon breaking the deadlock in the 89th minute to give Tenerife the victory.
