Granada's domination
Sandoval's charges controlled the opening exchanges and displayed impressive organisation and defensive solidity. Despite their domination, however, they were unable to create any meaningful chances and get in behind Valencia's defence to trouble Diego Alves.
…and Valencia's chances
Although the home side was on top, the visitors looked more dangerous and created the most clear-cut chances throughout the contest. Just minutes before the half-time whistle, Andre Gomes had the goal at his mercy, but Andres Fernandez made a fabulous save to turn the ball behind for a corner.
Parejo opened the scoring
The pressure eventually told... Valencia opened the scoring after Paco Alcacer played Parejo through on goal and the Spaniard put it away with a powerful finish from inside the box. Valencia sat back after going ahead, setting themselves up to counter and score a second goal.
Barral hit the bar and El Arabi went close
Granada looked to fight back and spurned two gilt-edged opportunities after Valencia took the lead. First, David Barral hit the bar from close range from a Success cross. El Arabi saw a header land just wide soon after, as a relieved Diego Alves looked on. The home team piled on the pressure, but luck was not on their side.
Santi Mina kept Valencia on track
Valencia held on for a second straight league win, which can be added to the Europa League victory over Rapid Vienna to make it three wins on the bounce for Gary Neville in all competitions. One man behind Valencia's good run is Santi Mina, who has had a fantastic week. The 20-year-old got on the scoresheet once again against Granada, when he gobbled up a rebound to tap home the second goal after Andres Fernandez parried Alcacer's chip. Edgar did head in a Rochina free-kick in stoppage time to cut the arrears, but it would prove to be but a consolation.
