The central section was held on 2 May, with victory going to UD Santa Marta. They will join the rest of the finalists who will travel to the National Final of the Danone Nations Cup – the biggest international under-12s football tournament. The competition, which was staged at the La Dehesa de Navalcarbon sports installations in Las Rozas (Madrid), brought together over 450 boys and girls aged between 10 and 12 years of age, who enjoyed a day of football in the glorious sunshine with friends and family, in an atmosphere brimming with team spirit, fun and fair play.

It was a festive day on which participants and spectators alike were accompanied and supported by a very special guest – the Liga BBVA ambassador and former player, Milinko Pantic, who assured that he had a fantastic time watching the games and cheering on the kids in their bid to reach the final.

UD Santa Marta, from Santa Marta de Tormes (Salamanca), made it through round after round and into the final against Ciudad de Getafe Sport Club. Both sides lived up to the expectation of the match, producing quality play throughout. The Salamanca side ended up taking the victory, keeping a clean sheet and netting twice against Getafe. There was also plenty of excitement in the Consolation Cup final, in which AD Union Carrascal took on CDE El Carmen de Daimiel in a clash which ended 1-0 to Union Carrascal.

After the games were over, it was time for the trophies to be presented and to make mention of the local teams and institutions which supported the tournament, making it possible to hold it at the Las Rozas facilities. The Liga BBVA ambassador, Milinko Pantic, presented the Fair Play Award to Club Deportivo Betis Florida for their exemplary conduct throughout the competition.

More than just football

The kids also had the opportunity to learn some healthy living habits through talks given to each of the teams and games which the organisers had prepared for the occasion. Meanwhile, to encourage the youngsters to appreciate just how hard life can be for others, the organisers set aside an area for interesting activities to raise awareness, such as the "Circle of stars" (Adecco Foundation), where the children were able put themselves in the shoes of a disabled person.
