Thanks to the LigaBBVAExperience, an international project headed up by LaLiga and run in partnership with the broadcasters who air the league throughout the world, nine supporters from China and South Africa were offered a first-hand feel for the excitement generated by a Liga BBVA game. After the success enjoyed by the events held throughout the country, it was now the turn of Bilbao to host an experience which its participants would never forget.
The Basque city was the next stop on a route which has so far included events in Malaga, Valencia, Las Palmas, San Sebastian, Madrid and A Coruña. The latest instalment was rounded off with supporters attending the clash between Athletic and Atletico, during which Athletic Club showed themselves to be the ideal hosts.
The adventure for the winners of the prize draw - organised by Supersport and PPTV - got underway at the San Mames stadium, where the followers were taken on a behind-the-scenes tour of Athletic's home ground. Throughout the three-day experience, the visitors were treated to the very best of the local Basque cuisine. During their stay, the guests also had time to take in the works of art on show at the Guggenheim museum, as well as gaining an insight into just how passionate the city is about its football during a meal hosted by one of the club's supporters' groups.
Upon reaching San Mames, Jose Angel Iribar, the legendary Athletic goalkeeper; Iraia Iturregui, the captain of the women's side; and her teammate, Garazi Murua, were on hand to welcome the visitors and present them with a certificate to mark their participation in an experience which will forever remain in their memories. What's more, the supporters were able to head pitchside to witness their idols being put through their paces before kick-off, before settling back into their VIP seats to ready themselves for the action.
