Ten things we learnt from the recently concluded Liga Adelante campaign

Following on from a gripping end to the season, we look back on the lessons served up over the course of the 42 matchdays in the second tier.

- This past season we learnt that there is some special momentum at CD Leganes. The club only climbed into the second tier last June and nine months later, they had clinched a historic promotion to the Liga BBVA, which they will grace for the first time next term.

- We also reinforced the idea that a good dose of R&R can go a long way. Just ask R. Valladolid CF, whose attacking partnership going by these initials, Roger Marti and Vincenzo Rennella, scored 11 goals between them and helped the club to a ninth-place finish.

- We similarly learnt that Spanish goalscorers are back in fashion in the Liga Adelante. Sergio Leon finished as the division's leading marksman on 22 goals and although Romania international Florin Andone was next in the standings, this pair were followed by David Rodriguez, Toche, Jose Naranjo, Juan Villar, Quique Gonzalez and a host of other strikers hailing from our shores.

- Excitement is guaranteed every matchday. We knew that already, but the campaign offered further evidence. The division is so keenly contested that the gap between the last playoff spot and the relegation zone was just 16 points.

- We learnt that Mendizorroza really is a top-tier stadium. It was packed to the rafters matchday in, matchday out as the D. Alaves fans got right behind their team, who rewarded them by ending the season as Liga Adelante champions, with 75 points, and earning a place in the Liga BBVA.

- Meanwhile, CD Lugo cemented their status as the division's pass-masters. They racked up a league-high 19,000 passes and, with Fernando Seoane and Carlos Pita pulling the strings in midfield, played a distinctive brand of expansive, attacking football.

- We also learnt that you can win things with kids, or at the very least gain promotion with a team spurred on by a gaggle of enthusiastic academy graduates. Just ask At. Osasuna, who achieved this feat with a number of starlets from their Tajonar youth set-up shining, expertly guided by a seasoned veteran in Enrique Martin.

- We saw Isaac Becerra again stake his claim as one of the Liga Adelante's biggest stars with a string of superb displays between the Girona FC sticks. The Catalans conceded just 28 goals en route to sealing a playoff place.

- We also learnt that this SD Huesca side subscribe to the club's motto, 'forever loyal, never retreat' (fieles siempre, sin reblar in Spanish). They showed as much with a fine campaign in which they scooped a commendable 12th-place finish in their first season since being promoted from Segunda Division B.

- Last but not least, we learnt that in such a competitive division, the inevitable outcome is plenty of draws. Indeed, no fewer than three clubs drew 18 of their 42 fixtures over the course of the campaign.
