Stuani to the fore as Espanyol earn another win

Christian Stuani and Felipe Caicedo were the stars of the show in the Liga BBVA matchday 20 encounter between RCD Espanyol and UD Almería, as the pair hit the goals that saw los pericos claim all three points in a 3-0 win.

The Uruguayan had warned that Espanyol have the same level of ambition in the Liga BBVA as in the Copa, and it was his header that hit the bar in the first opportunity after 16 minutes, forcing Almería to throw themselves into defensive action. Juan Ignacio Martínez’s men sought to hold firm but, in just three minutes, Stuani bagged a brace for a side unmistakably with the bit between its teeth.

After the restart, Almería looked for a goal to cut the deficit and get back into the match. Ximo Navarro and Verza had the clearest chances, but both were denied by keeper Kiko Casilla. With fifteen minutes to go, Caicedo – one of the most in-form players in Sergio González’s side – scored to make it 3-0 and ensure another successful day’s work for an Espanyol team enjoying its finest form in recent years.
