Battle in the middle of the pitch
One of the fiercest battles was waged in the middle of the pitch. Fran Escriba and Unai Emery were well aware of the shape the game might take and packed out the midfield. The majority of the changes which they made in the second half were for players from this area of the park.
Guaita produces some great saves
After coming out on top in a one-on-one with Vitolo in the first half, Vicente Guaita grew and grew in the game. Both in the air and getting down low, the Getafe keeper was fantastic throughout the evening. Two great saves by the shot-stopper allowed his side to enter the final stages of the game with the scores still level.
Banega displays true class
With just 10 minutes to go before the final whistle, the Argentine lined up a free-kick on the edge of the area and produced a masterful finish. The Sevilla number 19 put it up and over the wall and beyond the outstretched Guaita. He managed to get a fingertip to the ball, but was unable to prevent it flying in to make it 1-0.
Velazquez to the rescue
Getafe did not give up hope and created chances during the game, but they were having trouble finishing them off. Emiliano Velazquez finally equalised with four minutes to go after pouncing on a loose ball in the area following a corner kick. His goal left the final score at 1-1 and broke Escriba’s run of seven defeats on the trot, whilst Sevilla’s point keeps them in fifth place.
