This Wednesday Real Madrid host Sevilla FC in matchday 16 of Liga BBVA in a game that was postponed owing to Real Madrid’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup in December.

The home side have won their last four games, and will be looking to stretch their lead at the top of the table over second-placed FC Barcelona. The Andalusian side’s 3-2 win over Espanyol has given them added impetus in their battle for fourth.

Team news

For this big game, the injured trio of Fábio Coentrão, Pepe and Luka Modrić will be out for the home side, as will the suspended Cristiano Ronaldo. For the visitors Benoît Trémoulinas, Cristóforo, José Antonio Reyes, Kevin Gameiro, Nico Pareja and Krychowiak will all be missing through injury, while Unai Emery will also be without the suspended Éver Banega.

When previewing the game, Carlo Ancelotti said it was a “dangerous” game, should his side not be at their best. “The most important game is tomorrow and not the derby. We can increase the distance between ourselves and our opponents and I will play my strongest side”, said the Italian.

His counterpart at Sevilla, Unai Emery, said he had confidence in his players: “We know how hard it is to play Real Madrid, but we want to say ‘We are here’. Each time you go to the Santiago Bernabéu you have to be at your very best, which is something that we like, and it also helps us see and value where we are”.
