The Westin New York Grand Central Hotel acted as the meeting point for players and LaLiga directors following Valencia CF’s arrival to the Big Apple. The president, Lay Hoon, and the executive president, Amadeo Salvo, were in charge of welcoming the team. Moments beforehand they also greeted the LaLiga president, Javier Tebas, who had recently made his way over from Madrid to be part of the events that have been organised for this trip. Valencia supporters waited outside the hotel on the famous 42nd Street to collect autographs and take photographs of their favourite players; with Álvaro Negredo, Dani Parejo and Paco Alcácer getting the most attention.
Nuno’s charges landed in JFK on Monday at 6pm local time, midnight in mainland Spain, without the injured Diego Alves, nor Otamendi and Orbán, who have both been called up for Copa América duty. Academy players like Jaume,Salva Ruiz and Sergio Ayala made up the rest of the travelling squad.
During the flight, with the peace of mind and satisfaction of having secured a place in the Champions League qualifiers, Javi Fuego emphasised the importance of this trip to the United States: “This is a great experience for all concerned. We are flying the flag for LaLiga and Valencia. After finishing the season so well, it’s fantastic to be able to promote LaLiga in an emerging football market like the United States”.
Valencia CF, in collaboration with UN Women, will sign a gender equality agreement on Tuesday in the UN headquarters, New York City. Following this ceremony, the team will depart for Ohio where they will play a friendly against the Major League Soccer outfit Columbus Crew SC.
