They got people out of their seats last season and became key figures for their sides. The great form of Jesé Rodríguez (Real Madrid), 'Rafinha' Alcántara (RC Celta) and Saúl Ñíguez (Rayo Vallecano) means they are nominated for the 'Best Breakthrough Player in the 2013/14 Liga BBVA' Award. The '2014 LFP Awards Ceremony' will see the new talent rewarded.
Jesé Rodríguez, the academy prospect Real Madrid have been waiting for. Arriving at the club aged 14, the player had played in the first team beforehand, but last season would be the campaign where he showed he was here to stay. The youngster is tricky and explosive, and played 18 times in Liga BBVA, scoring five times and showing Carlo Ancelotti he is worth a starting berth.
'Rafinha' Alcántara's performance at Celta were outstanding. The younger Alcántara brother was the leader of the side where his father 'Mazinho' had previously starred. Despite being only 20-years-old, Rafinha took the side by the scruff of the neck, scoring four goals in 33 games, helping the side from Vigo finish the season in top form. The ability and maturity shown while on loan means that he has been given an opportunity by parent club FC Barcelona.
The maturity shown by youngster Saúl is the reason he is nominated for this prize. Versatile and secure, the midfielder was one of Paco Jémez's first names on the teamsheet either in the centre of the park or at the back. He played 37 times, impressing so much that he has returned to parent side Atlético Madrid and is now part of their first team.
