He was man of the match. It was the 19-year-old's Liga BBVA debut and the young Betis player showcased his talents over the course of the 90 minutes. He was great going forward, playing quick, direct football and was the Verdiblanco's most active player in attack. Despite being involved in several promising moves, he was unable to cap his debut with a goal.
Ruben Castro goal
He's always in the right place at the right time. The Canary Islander scores the goals for Betis and they are very reliant on him. He scored in their last game against Real Sociedad and is the Verdiblancos' top goalscorer with 10 of their 16 goals to date. This time around, he scored following some impressive build-up play. Musonda back-heeled the ball to Van Wolfswinkel who fed Ruben Castro inside the six-yard box, and he tapped home from close range.
Goal-line clearance
Valencia reacted quickly to Ruben Castro's goal. Andre Gomes spread the ball out to Denis Cheryshev, who squared it to Alvaro Negredo. The Valencia striker drilled his shot goalwards, only for Betis centre-back Juan Manuel Vargas to clear the ball off the line.
Valencia were too hasty
Valencia's overall performance was hampered by haste and nerves. The visitors barely created any goalscoring chances during the game.
Gaya red card
To make matters worse, Valencia were reduced to 10 men five minutes from time, when the referee sent off Gaya. Rodrigo had a chance to equalise in the 92nd minute, but Adan was quick to deny him. With no wins since Matchday 11, things are getting tough for Valencia and their coach Gary Neville who has yet to win a game in the Liga BBVA.
