On Wednesday, the Liga de Fútbol Profesional and the Spanish Agency for the Protection of Health in Sport (AEPSAD) held a seminar at the LFP headquarters for updating and training on the new issues related to anti-doping. The talk was led by Ricardo Resta, the LFP's director of competitions, together with Jesús Muñoz-Guerra, the head of the AEPSAD's Department for the Prevention and Monitoring of Doping and Coral Fernández Gumiel, the head of the Division for the Management and Application of Activities in the Fight against Doping.

At the meeting, which was attended by anti-doping representatives from the 42 LFP football clubs, the system that is to be employed for the regulation of anti-doping controls in competition and outside of competition, and the methodology for specific detection applicable to football, among other things, were explained.

"This year we have strengthened our contact with the agency because in addition to the controls in competition during the matches, they are starting to be carried out outside of competition. In this sense, the LFP and clubs' contribution to the process of identification and location of training sessions, schedules, etc. is very important", said Ricardo Resta.

In addition, the director of competitions said the meeting was "very satisfactory for everyone because it shows the commitment of the clubs, the agency and the LFP to the fight against doping". "The goal is to have more direct contact with the LFP in order to carry out more exhaustive monitoring. This season, the number of checks carried out will be the same as last season. There will be fewer checks during competition because those carried out outside of it will be multiplied by three", explained Jesús Muñoz Guerra.

The Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante teams can currently provide information on the location of their players to the anti-doping authorities through ADAMS, a computing tool created by the World Anti-Doping Agency that allows effective, traceable and online real-time updates on the location data and safe communication between anti-doping organisations, sports federations and clubs.
