It is no coincidence that Villarreal CF have secured a UEFA Champions League place for next season. It is all the result of hard work, sweat and determination – the very same things Adrian Lopez had to resort to in order to overcome the injury which left him sidelined for over four months. But he is back, and back with a bang.
The striker returned to the field of play on 13 February, lining up against his former club, Atletico Madrid, and since then he has been improving constantly, to the point that he is now displaying his best form for Villarreal. The month of April has been full of superb performances by the player. And he has not come up short on the goals front either.
The Villarreal number 20 has scored a total of four goals in the Liga BBVA. But he has not just found the net in the domestic competition. He was also on cue in the Europa League. His goal in the continental cup was a vital one for the Yellow Submarine, coming in the 92nd minute and giving his side victory in the first leg of the semi-final against Liverpool (1-0).
Adrian has demonstrated his pace and proved a decisive member of Marcelino's team in recent games. In the Liga BBVA he has scored on four occasions: against Rayo Vallecano; SD Eibar, to level the scores; Getafe CF; and Valencia CF, when he netted Villarreal's winning goal in the match that guaranteed them a fourth-place finish.
Now, in the final straight of the season, Adrian is feeling more at home than ever at the club and has earned the trust of Marcelino, who has discovered a lethal striker.
