Bayer 04 Leverkusen 2-0 Real Sociedad
Real Sociedad slipped to their only defeat of the pre-season at Leverkusen's BayArena. The Germans' two goals came within the space of a couple of minutes not long after the half-hour mark. Kevin Volland opened the scoring in the 35th minute, before Chicharito's penalty made it 2-0 shortly afterwards.
AD Alcorcon 1-0 CD Leganes
The second-tier outfit ran out victorious in this Madrid derby thanks to Nelson's 36th-minute goal. Alcorcon looked threatening right from the word go, quickly carving out a number of chances. However, it was not until 10 minutes before half-time that they finally got the breakthrough, when Jacobo Gonzalez found some space up the right and played the ball into the box, where Nelson did the rest.
SV Darmstadt 1-1 UD Las Palmas
The Canary Islanders concluded their pre-season with a draw in Germany. Darmstadt broke the deadlock in the first 45 minutes at the Merck-Stadion am Bollenfalltor courtesy of Maximilian Beister. Las Palmas kept plugging away in the second period and got their reward when Marko Livaja levelled in the 86th minute.
Qatar 0-1 Real Betis
The Andalusians got back to winning ways in this friendly fixture held in Switzerland, with Petros's well-taken strike settling the contest. It was goalless at the break in spite of both teams creating several openings, but Betis's Brazilian attacking midfielder made no mistake in the second half to ensure that Gustavo Poyet's side ended their #LaLigaWorld adventure with a victory. Dani Ceballos claimed the Man of the Match award.
Atletico Madrid 2-1 Nigeria All-Stars
The Madrilenians secured a third-place finish in the Ramon de Carranza Trophy after getting the better of the team made up of the cream of the crop from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). Nico Gaitan put Atletico Madrid ahead with his second goal for his new club and Diego Simeone's charges took that 1-0 lead into half-time. The Nigerians got back on level terms after the restart and hung in there until the 89th minute, when Diego Godin popped up to net the winner for the Rojiblancos.
At. Osasuna 1-5 Rayo Vallecano
The club from the outskirts of Madrid came away from Burgos, where this friendly was held, with an emphatic victory. Rayo were rampant in the first half and racked up a four-goal lead, with Patrick Ebert bagging a brace and Adri Embarba and Alex Moreno also on target. Osasuna dug in after the interval and managed to reduce the deficit through Nino, but the LaLiga 1|2|3 outfit were not done yet and Manucho rounded off the rout.
Juventus FC 2-2 RCD Espanyol
Espanyol drew first blood in this thrilling clash against the Serie A champions in Italy, with Leo Baptistao latching on to Pablo Piatti's pass and finishing with aplomb in the 36th minute. So it was that the Spaniards went into the break a goal to the good. Juventus came to life in the second half and Mario Mandzukic notched a deserved close-range equaliser 10 minutes after the action resumed. Yet Quique Sanchez Flores's visitors were not deterred and duly edged their noses in front again in the 84th minute when Gerard Moreno slotted into the empty net. However, there was still time for Paulo Dybala to steal the show by making it 2-2 with an absolute stunner.
R. Sporting 1-1 RC Deportivo (4-2 on penalties)
Sporting crowned themselves champions of the 20th Villa de Gijon Trophy by prevailing against Deportivo in a penalty shootout. The match ended 1-1 at the end of the 90 minutes of regular time. Duje Cop netted for Sporting, whilst Bruno Gama grabbed Deportivo's goal. And so the game went to penalties, with the Asturians coming out on top 4-2.
R. Valladolid 1-1 D. Alaves (3-2 on penalties)
Like Sporting, Valladolid won their hometown competition, the City of Valladolid Trophy. And this one also went all the way to penalties after finishing 1-1. Goals from Igor Lichnovsky and Gaizka Toquero took the game to a spot-kick tiebreaker, and it was the home side who ran out the winners.
CD Leganes 3-2 Villarreal CF
Leganes won at Butarque thanks to a last-gasp goal from Alex Szymanowski. The Madrilenians looked dangerous from the off and Victor Diaz opened the scoring on 21 minutes. There were no more goals to be had before the break, but Villarreal cancelled out the deficit through Mario Gonzalez as soon as the second half got underway. Leganes regained the lead, but Nicola Sansone levelled again on 65 minutes. An 83rd minute strike by Szymanowski gave the home team the win.
RCD Mallorca 2-3 Granada CF
Mallorca went ahead early on and the scoreline remained 1-0 when the referee blew for half-time. After the restart, Angel Sanchez doubled the islanders' advantage. However, rather than bow to the inevitable, Granada rose to the challenge and managed to pull a goal back through Ezequiel Ponce. With time running out, Ponce completed a brace to make it 2-2. There was another goal still to come, though. Five minutes later Jon Toral netted a third for Granada to give his side the City of Palma Trophy.
R. Zaragoza 2-2 SD Eibar (6-5 on penalties)
The game played in Zaragoza was decided on penalties. The hosts built up a two-goal lead, but Eibar equalised in the second half with goals from Mauro dos Santos and Takashi Inui. The Aragonese outfit won the penalty shootout 6-5 and lifted the Carlos Lapetra Memorial-City of Zaragoza Trophy.
Valencia CF 2-1 ACF Fiorentina
Pako Ayestaran's men captured the Orange Trophy in a hard-fought match against tough opposition, in which Valencia's quality and firepower came to the fore and ultimately tipped the scales. Rodrigo and Rafa Mir got on the scoresheet for the home side.
Cadiz CF 1-2 Malaga CF
Malaga won the Ramon de Carranza Trophy for the first time in the club's history by beating the home team 2-1. Juande Ramos's charges produced a blinder of a performance in the second half, outplaying Cadiz and netting twice to put the game beyond the hosts. Charles fired home the first from the penalty spot 50 minutes in, before Youssef En-Nesyri extended their lead on 73 minutes. Cadiz reduced the arrears through Aitor Garcia, but that was all they could manage.
