The 3rd LaLiga Promises International Tournament kicked off this Friday in New Jersey with an opening day packed with goals, quality play and oodles of talent. The standout performers were Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona and SL Benfica, all of whom won both of their games.

Group A
After getting knocked out in the semi-finals of the LaLiga Promises National Tournament last weekend in Villarreal, Madrid made a strong start to the competition. Los Blancos thrashed Atletico National 4-0 in the opener and produced a hard-fought 2-1 win over Sevilla FC in their second match. The Madrilenians currently top their group with six points, three more than Sevilla, who beat Ironbound 3-0. The local outfit and Atletico Nacional complete the tail end with a point apiece after their 0-0 draw ahead of Saturday's decisive matchday.

Group B
Atletico Madrid are top dogs in Group B at the moment, after winning their two games against Mexico's Club America and Valencia CF: the final scores 3-1 and 2-0 respectively. Atleti are on six points with two games played, giving them a three-point cushion over FC Internazionale and Valencia, with America propping up the standings and yet to get off the mark.

Group C
The other two teams to finish the first matchday with the full complement of six points came from Group C. Benfica defeated Villarreal CF 1-0 and then went on to beat New York City 2-0. Barcelona, meanwhile, managed 1-0 victories over the same opponents. The Portuguese side lead the group, above Barcelona on goal difference, whilst Villarreal and New York City are third and fourth respectively, yet to register a point but still in with a chance of making it through to the quarter-finals. Benfica and Barcelona play each other on Saturday to contend the top spot of the group.
