LaLiga in the limelight again at the FIFA Ballon d'Or Gala

It's becoming a regular sight to see LaLiga's leading players among the candidates to win the FIFA Ballon d'Or. Since 2010, they have provided at least two of the three players for the coveted prize. In 2010, 2011, 2012 and this year, in 2015, LaLiga has provided all three nominees. In 2013 and 2014, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were the two representatives.

On this occasion, the Argentine forward, the Portuguese striker and Neymar Jr are the three players who aspire to be named Best Player of 2015, when FIFA and France Football name the winner in Zurich. An outstanding short list to represent the best league in the world.

LaLiga is also represented in other categories outside of the three finalists for the Ballon d'Or. In the list of the 23 most voted players there are a total of 11 from Liga BBVA. Six of them, Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez, Javier Mascherano, Ivan Rakitić and Andres Iniesta (the only Spaniard among the 23) are from FC Barcelona, while Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez, Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos are from Real Madrid.

LaLiga's successes at the FIFA Ballon d'Or Gala go back a number of years. In 2010, Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and Lionel Messi were the candidates for the title, the Argentine lifting the award.

Over the two following editions, LaLiga stole the limelight again. Messi, Xavi and Cristiano were the three finalists in 2011, while in 2012, Messi and Cristiano were on the podium again this time with Andres Iniesta, the Argentine winning on both occasions.

Cristiano Ronaldo has won the two most recent awards, with Messi among the runners up both times making LaLiga the most represented competition at the Gala.

On 11 January, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar will be looking to be named the Best Player of 2015 with LaLiga retaining it's crown as the best league in the world.
