LaLiga Santander clubs continue to bolster the competition's reputation game after game, week after week and trophy after trophy. Three Champions League and UEFA Super Cup successes between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, Sevilla FC's hat-trick of consecutive Europa Leagues and the previous two Club World Cups split between Los Blancos and Los Azulgranas over the last three years have now been joined by Real Madrid's latest triumph in Japan, further extending Spain's global dominance in the beautiful game.

The last non-Spanish outfit to win an international competition involving European sides at club level were FC Bayern Munich three years ago. Since that success in 2013, LaLiga Santander teams have come out on top on every front that they have competed in. The record-breaking figures provide further proof that the Spanish league is the very best in the world.

The fact that players in LaLiga have completely dominated the headlines when it comes to individual accolades is also remarkable. The best example is the prestigious Ballon d'Or which has been awarded to a LaLiga Santander player for the eighth year in a row. Cristiano Ronaldo, with four Ballons d'Or to his name, is hot on the heels of Lionel Messi, who has clinched the award five times, making him one of the most celebrated players of all time. Meanwhile, the Portuguese star has the honour of being the first man in history to win the Ballon d'Or, Champions League, Club World Cup and European Championship all in the same year.
