The LaLiga Santander season concluded in customary fashion by serving up goals, skills, spills and thrills aplenty, not to mention some great individual performances from the players who make up the last LaLiga Fantasy MARCA Best XI of the campaign.
They say that variety is the spice of life and the members of this star-studded lineup would surely not argue, hailing as they do from six different clubs: Real Madrid, Sevilla FC, SD Eibar, RC Deportivo, Real Betis and Atletico Madrid. Sevilla it is who lead the way, supplying the most representatives and also the Player of the Matchday, Vitolo, whose stellar display against CA Osasuna included a brace.
Keylor Navas occupies the Best XI sticks this time round, having made several clutch saves to keep Malaga CF at bay on Sunday at La Rosaleda, where a 2-0 victory sealed the title for Los Blancos.
There is a three-man defence on this occasion, with Sevilla duo Mariano and Sergio Escudero partnering Madrid's Raphael Varane. Jorge Sampaoli's men are also heavily represented in midfield, where Player of the Matchday Vitolo – who chalked up no fewer than 22 points – is joined by teammate Franco Vazquez, as well as Eibar's Takashi Inui, who bagged a fantastic brace of his own in his side's loss to FC Barcelona, and Isco, who was influential in the champions' win at his old stomping ground.
Double trouble is the theme in attack, with the front three all having struck twice over the weekend. Florin Andone netted two of Deportivo's goals in their 3-0 rout of UD Las Palmas, Ruben Castro earned Betis a 2-2 draw away to R. Sporting, and Fernando Torres bade a fond farewell to the Vicente Calderon, scoring two of the most special goals of his career in Atletico's 3-1 win against Athletic Club.
