Goals, dribbling, excitement, recognition and some world-class performances. LaLiga Santander has kicked off with a bang and, following a thrilling weekend, it is time to look back over the LaLiga Fantasy MARCA Best XI for Matchday 2.
Variety is the order of the day with players from as many as nine teams represented in the Best XI: D. Alaves, Real Sociedad, CD Leganes, Girona FC, Real Madrid, Sevilla FC, FC Barcelona, R. Betis and Atletico Madrid. Sevilla and La Real are the only two clubs with two players in the line-up, although it was Leganes who provided this week's Player of the Matchday. That was Martin Mantovani, who scored his side's winner away to RCD Espanyol and notched up an impressive 20 points as Leganes kept a clean sheet on their trip to the RCDE Stadium.
'Alaves's Fernando Pacheco takes his place between the posts. Despite being on the losing end of a 2-0 defeat at home to Barcelona, the keeper did save a Leo Messi penalty during a stellar performance'.
Alongside Mantovani, the team of the week's back line is made up of Sevilla's Simon Kjaer and Gabriel Mercado, Girona centre-back Pedro Alcala and La Real's Aritz Elustondo.
La Real also provide some talent to the midfield. Xavi Prieto takes his place in the middle alongside two players who both scored braces on Matchday 2, Marco Asensio and Koke, and another who notched up two assists in Betis's win over RC Deportivo: Andres Guardado.
Only one player graces this week's attack, but what a player he is. Lionel Messi joins the Best XI for Matchday 2 thanks mainly to his two goals in the win over Alaves at Mendizorroza.
