This Friday saw the LaLiga Promises tournament kick off with a full schedule of 40 games, with the following teams progressing through to the round-of-16 stage:  FC Barcelona, Valencia CF, RC Deportivo and R. Sporting (Group A); Granada CF, Atletico Madrid, RC Celta and RCD Espanyol (Group B); R. Betis, Real Madrid, UD Las Palmas and Real Sociedad (Group C); Villarreal CF, Malaga CF, Sevilla FC and D. Alaves (Group D).

Group A

Barcelona were the pick of the bunch in this group, with the Catalans remaining unbeaten and notching 10 goals from their four group stage fixtures. Rayo Vallecano only managed to register one win as they bowed out of the tournament.

Group B

One of the surprise packages of the day were Granada, who also recorded a clean slate of victories and head into the round of 16 in high spirits and looking to do something special at the tournament. In stark contrast, Levante UD were knocked out after picking up just one point, which came courtesy of their draw against Celta in their last outing.

Group C

Group C was one of the tournament's most entertaining and open groups. Betis, Madrid and Las Palmas served up a real treat with plenty of goals and some eye-catching football in a group in which top spot came right down to the last game of the day, with Andalusians ultimately taking that honour. SD Eibar, who finished down in fifth, will hope to fare better next season.

Group D

Malaga, Villarreal and Sevilla once again showed why they can lay claim to being amongst the top academy set-ups in Spain. Alaves also performed excellently to take their place in the next round, whilst Getafe CF head home after having taken a point from their four games.

The round-of-16 draw:

Valencia - Celta
Atlético - Deportivo
Villarreal - Las Palmas
R. Madrid - Sevilla
FC Barcelona - Espanyol
Granada - Sporting
Betis - Alavés
Málaga - R. Sociedad
