Girona FC continue to take sure-footed steps towards the Liga BBVA after beating FC Barcelona 2-4 the Miniestadi on matchday 37 of the Liga Adelante. Girona, who quickly conceded the first goal, were able to get back into the game and stay in second place with the win. On the other hand, Barcelona B will remain in the relegation zone for another week.

Girona decided to take the initiative from the outset. Pablo Machín’s men provided most of the play against a more reserved Barcelona B side who managed to goal head with their first incursion into the opponent’s area. Sandro Ramírez pulled back and hit a shot that was impossible for Isaac Becerra to stop. The goal spurred on Barcelona who went in search of a second goal against a Girona side that were still coming to terms with the blow of the goal. Little by little, Girona awakened and Fran Sandaza had two clear chances on goal. Finally, in a one-on-one Jaime Mata got an equaliser just before half-time.

After half-time, Girona continued upwards and managed to quickly turn the scoreboard around with a goal from Eloi Amagat, who got to a clearance on the edge of the area to make it 1-2. Straight away, Fran Sandaza extended the lead to make it 1-3. The game seemed to have been sealed, and could have been even more so if the post had not prevented Cifuentes making it 1-4. Despite everything, the game got its excitement back with a goal from Adama Traoré in the 80’ minute. Cifuentes sealed the win in the 89’ making it 2-4 to leave Girona with the three points.
