Alberto Bueno was the standout player in matchday 25 in the Liga BBVA. The Madrid-born striker lead Rayo Vallecano to victory over Levante UD by scoring all four of his team’s goal in the space of just 14 minutes, setting up a second consecutive home win for the club from Vallecas.

Bueno is in fine goalscoring form and is now the top scoring Spanish player in the Liga BBVA this season, with 12 goals. The 26-year-old has already bettered his goalscoring tally from last year and now has his sights on another record: he is just two goals away from reaching the 25 goals that would see him overtake Bolo as Rayo Vallecano’s top scorer in the Liga BBVA.

Bueno is only the fourth Spanish player to score at least four goals in one game in the Liga BBVA in the last 15 years. The first player to do so was Fernando Morientes, who scored five times between the 21st and 80th minute in a 7-0 victory for Real Madrid over UD Las Palmas in 2001/02.

Two other players hit four goals in a game more recently. David Villa hit his haul in 32 minutes for Real Zaragoza in a 4-4 draw with Sevilla FC in 2003/04. And two seasons ago Álvaro Negredo, now at Valencia, scored four goals against Los Che to give Sevilla a 4-3 win in his last game with the Hispalenses in June 2013, and in doing so prevented Valencia from qualifying for the UEFA Champions League the following season.

Bueno’s four goals were faster than the aforementioned hauls but he is not the player to have scored four goals in the least time in a Liga BBVA game. That honour still belongs to former RC Deportivo striker Bebeto, who scored four times in just six minutes as the Galicians beat Albacete Balompié 5-0 at Riazor in 1995/96.

Three other players have hit four goals faster than Bueno. Mundo needed just 10 minutes to score four and fire Valencia to a 6-0 win over Real Sociedad in 1940/41. In that very same season, Campanal scored four goals in the space of 10 minutes to give Sevilla a 6-0 win over RCD Espanyol. Finally, the late Kubala hit four goals in the space of 14 minutes for FC Barcelona in a 9-0 win over R. Sporting in season 1951/52.
