- Everton began life in Liverpool as St Domingo’s FC in 1878, when a church cricket team branched out to create a football side. They changed their name to Everton FC the following year when they also became founding members of the English Football League.

- Everton have played more seasons in the top division of English football (113) than any other club.

- Everton have won the First Division title nine times, the last coming in 1986/7 under Howard Kendall who departed to coach LaLiga’s Athletic Club the following season. They have won the FA Cup five times and also lifted the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1985.

- Everton have traditionally been known as ‘The Toffees’. It is said they picked up the name due to the presence of a couple of popular sweet shops near their ground that were famous for their toffee, and were frequented by fans on their way to games.

- Everton have appointed Dutch former Barcelona player Ronald Koeman as their manager for the new campaign. They also boast some familiar faces in their squad. Goalkeeper Joel Robles (Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano), and forwards Arouna Kone (Sevilla and Levante) and Gerard Deulofeu (Barcelona and Sevilla), have all played in LaLiga.
