- After succumbing to newly promoted CD Leganes on Matchday 1, the Galicians followed that up with defeat to Real Madrid. This leaves them needing to beat Atletico Madrid to get their season properly up and running. However, Eduardo Berizzo's side will have to do so without Orellana, who is a key cog in their dynamic, swashbuckling system and had a hand in their last three goals in LaLiga, scoring two of them and setting up the other one.
- The 1-0 loss to Leganes was Celta's only reverse in their last 10 games at Balaidos. This otherwise formidable run should give Berizzo's men confidence that they can get a result this weekend in Vigo.

- In the wake of disappointing draws in their first two fixtures, the Rojiblancos are intent on igniting their challenge. Despite the club's frustrating start to the campaign, their defence continues to provide a robust platform for their ambitions: the Madrilenians have only allowed their opponents eight shots on goal to date, the lowest total in LaLiga.
- Facing Celta would seem to bode well for Diego Simeone's troops' chances of scooping a longed-for victory. Simeone has an excellent record against the Sky Blues, having triumphed in six of eight meetings with them since taking the helm at Atleti.
