Athletic, Villarreal and Real Sociedadare LaLiga Santander's three representatives in the Europa League 2017/18 edition, and following today's draw in Monaco, they have found out who they'll be facing in Europe's second club competition.
Athletic Club, who were placed in group J, will face Hertha Berlin, Zorya Luhansk and Ostersunds FK. Ziganda's side reached the competition proper after knocking out Panathinaikos in the qualifying stages. Their objective is to go at least one better than last time out, when they were knocked out in the last 32 by Apoel Nicosia.
Meanwhile, Villarreal CF were drawn in group A and will be taking on Astana, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Slavia Prague. Like the aforementioned Basques, Villarreal will be looking to improve on last season's campaign and get beyond the last 32 stage. At this round in the 2016/17 edition, Fran Escriba's men fell to A.S. Roma.
Last but not least, Real Sociedad will be pitting their wits against Zenit Saint Petersberg, Rosenborg and FK Vadar in group L. The San Sebastian outfit's participation in this year's edition is a milestone for the club, as it's the first time they've appeared in the competition since the UEFA Cup days. The last time La Real came close to reaching the group stages was back in 2014/15, when their chances were ended by Russian side Krasnodar in the playoffs.
