FC Barcelona ended 2014 with a 5-0 win over Córdoba CF. Luis Enrique's men went ahead in the second minute and, in the second half, they extended their lead with Luis Suárez's first goal in the Liga BBVA. Gerard Piqué and Leo Messi, with a brace, sealed the match.
Barcelona took the lead very early on. Just two minutes had gone by when Ivan Rakitić hit a pass to Pedro Rodríguez in the middle of the area and the Canary Islander controlled the ball and sent it to the back the net. The goal did not intimidate the Andalusians who, through Nabil Ghilas and Fede Cartabia, had good chances on Claudio Bravo's goal.
After the break, little changed. Barcelona were in control and Córdoba defended their hearts out. In the eighth minute of the second half, the Azulgranas' second goal came. After great combination play involving Leo Messi, Andrés Iniesta and Pedro, the Canary Islander hit a pass into the area which Luis Suárez found to score his first goal in the Liga BBVA.
In the dying moments of the game, Barcelona looked to give their fans further reason to celebrate with more goals. A free kick struck by Xavi Hernández found Piqué's head to make it 3-0 in the 79th minute. Two minutes later, Messi added the finishing touch with a brace, to close out the match with a final score of 5-0.
