The Galician derby to be played between RC Celta and RC Deportivo as a part of the LaLiga World initiative is scheduled to go ahead as planned, with the only change involving the stadium set to host the encounter. The derby clash between the Galician rivals will be staged on Thursday 21 July at 22:30 CET (17:30 local time); however, in a change to the original programme, the game will now be played at Club Nacional's Gran Parque Central ground, and not Montevideo's Centenario stadium.
The efforts made by the president of the Galician Football Federation (FGF), Rafael Louzan; the Spanish National Professional Football League (LFP); and local broadcaster, Tenfield have ensured that this historic event – set to mark the first time that a Galician derby has been played outside of the Spanish region – will still go ahead. In a meeting held on Monday morning in Montevideo, the FGF, LaLiga and Tenfield drew up a revised schedule, which has been approved by the clubs, to ensure that the tournament takes place as planned.
The revised schedule:
Thursday 21 July: 22:30 CET (17:30 local time) RC Celta v RC Deportivo - Estadio Gran Parque Central
Saturday 23 July: 21:00 CET (16:00 local time) Club Nacional v RC Celta - Estadio Gran Parque Central
Sunday 24 July: 21:00 CET (16:00 local time) CA Peñarol v RC Deportivo - Estadio Campeon del Siglo
In the event that any of the games end in a draw, they will be decided by a penalty shoot-out, with the winners claiming the Antel Cup. The winners of each of the three tournament games will be presented with said trophy. This format, which was agreed upon by all parties, overcomes the security issues surrounding Uruguayan stadiums in recent days.
