For lovers of good football, the match between Real Madrid and Getafe CF certainly did not go unnoticed. Iker Casillas picked up his 334th victory in Primera División and became the player with the most wins ever in the competition.

In doing so, the Madrid goalkeeper caps a path that began on 18 December 1999, the day that the man from Móstoles earned his first three points in Liga BBVA with los blancos. That 2-1 triumph over RCD Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabéu came at the start of a long professional life that, after beating Getafe 7-3 on matchday 38 of the league, has delivered another record.

It means that fifteen seasons later, all spent wearing the shirt of Real Madrid, he has overtaken the man who until recently had boasted the most wins in the competition – another goalkeeper. Andoni Zubizarreta, who won 333 matches as a player for Athletic Club, FC Barcelona and Valencia, moves to second on the Liga BBVA’s all-time list.

Behind Zubizarreta is Raúl González with 327 victories, followed by a midfielder still plying his trade in the Spanish top flight. Xavi Hernández, captain of Barça, has been on the winning side in a total of 322 games in the division, an outstanding tally that he continues to add to after over 16 seasons with los azulgranas.

Manolo Sanchís, with 312 wins, and Paco Gento, with 286, complete the ranking of the top six players with the most victories in the Liga BBVA.
