Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona qualified for the quarter finals of the Copa del Rey after seeing off Real Madrid and Elche CF respectively in the final Round of 16 matches - joining Villarreal CF, Athletic Club, Getafe CF, Sevilla FC, RCD Espanyol and Málaga CF in the last eight.
There could only be one winner in the Madrid derby and in the end it was the Rojiblancos who made it through, making their 2-0 advantage from the first leg count by drawing 2-2 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The star of the show was on Fernando Torres, who twice gave the visitors the lead and forced Madrid to come back into the game, but the five goals Carlo Ancelotti's side needed needed proved a bridge too far for the Blancos, who were eliminated from the tournament they won last season.
Atlético will face Barcelona, last year’s beaten finalists, in the quarters after the Blaugranas beat Elche 4-0 to add to their emphatic 5-0 victory from the first leg. Jérémy Mathieu, Sergi Roberto, Pedro Rodríguez (from the penalty spot) and Munir El Haddadi each got on the scoresheet for Luis Enrique’s side.
