Asier Garitano Aguirrezabal (Bergara, Gipuzkoa, 6 December 1969) collected the Best Coach in LaLiga 1|2|3 2015/16 prize at the #PremiosLaLiga Gala in recognition of his spectacular exploits in guiding CD Leganes into the promised land of LaLiga Santander for the first time in their history.
The Basque tactician is currently in his fourth campaign in the Pepineros dugout and can already consider himself a living Leganes legend. After getting the club promoted to LaLiga 1|2|3 in his first year in charge, last term he oversaw a truly historic achievement: promotion to LaLiga Santander. This was the reward for a fantastic season in which Leganes finished second on 74 points, having racked up 20 wins and 14 draws from their 42 league matches, in which they scored 59 goals and conceded just 34.
The 46-year-old has continued to impress this term, moreover. Indeed, Leganes hit the ground running in the current campaign by winning their first-ever fixture in the top flight, at Balaidos. Garitano's dedication, work ethic and humility have helped him become one of the most highly regarded coaches in Spanish football and a worthy recipient of his #PremiosLaLiga accolade.
