LUN 20.10.2014

On 27 October, the Liga de Fútbol Profesional will be giving centre stage to the stars of the 2013-14 season at the LFP Awards Ceremony. The 42 Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante clubs will receive recognition at a ceremony in which Spanish football will put on its glad rags and reward the stars of last year's campaign. Players, managers and fans will enjoy a stunning evening, which starts at 20:00 and can be followed on LFP.es and on La Sexta, as from 22:30.

As many as 26 prizes will be presented to the best in each category for their performances in the 2013-14 season. The three captains of each club have voted for the 'Best Player' in each position and the 'Best Coach' in their corresponding division. They were not allowed to vote for players from their team or for their manager. Once the votes had been collected and sealed with a confidentiality agreement between each captain and the LFP, the nominees were named according to the number of votes received.

The managers were responsible for choosing the 'Breakthrough Player' from the 2013-14 season in their respective division. The coaches based their votes on four criteria provided by the LFP.

  • The chosen player must be younger than 24 years of age (born after 1 January 1989).
  • They may not have started a match for their national team.
  • The current season, in which the vote is made, is the first in which the player has played more than 10 matches in the first division (of any country).
  • A vote may not be cast for a member of the same club.

In addition, the 'Best Player' in the Liga BBVA and the Liga Adelante was chosen according to data provided by Mediacoach, a video analysis tool that studies the players from the 42 clubs in the LFP and is developed by Mediapro. This state-of-the-art system aims to improve the performance of teams by analysing games, players and exhaustive statistics. Mediacoach also allows real-time analysis of the game and the extraction of data on all the matches played on every day of the Liga BBVA and the Liga Adelante, all without exception.

The 'Best Goal in La Liga' was chosen by LFP.es users who, from last July until 17 October, in collaboration with two experts, Axel Torres and Julio Maldonado 'Maldini', were able to vote for their favourite goal of the championship on the LFP website. The two journalists chose ten goals that they judged to be the best in the Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante in the 2013-14 season and football fans were able to vote on one of the ten for each of the competitions.

The awards for 'Best African Player' and 'Best American Player' in each division were also put to popular vote. It was the LFP.es users who again, with a simple 'click', were able to pick the most complete player from each of the two continents after watching an online video of their best moments of the season. Voting opened on 20 August and ended on 17 October.

The 'Fair Play' awards were assigned by Aficiones Unidas based on the collaboration between clubs and their fans, the ease of travelling and the stadiums of the 42 LFP teams, as well as the fair play of the teams and their players.

The 2014 LFP Awards Ceremony will be broadcast on La Sexta at 22:30 but it can also be followed from all five continents, online at LFP.es, where, from 20:00, users will be able to enjoy action from the red carpet. This celebration of Spanish football will also be broadcast in countries such as the USA, France, Portugal, Canada, the Middle East and in some Latin American and Asian countries.
