A terrific atmosphere in the Monumental to see Felipe Caicedo and RCD Espanyol

Barcelona SC have just completed 90 years since their foundation and they wanted to celebrate the anniversary in style. The club boasts the most fans in Ecuador and their supporters were able to enjoy a very special match against Felipe Caicedo's RCD Espanyol. The Ecuadorian star has been a supporter of Barcelona SC since he was a child and before the game he received a special gift on the pitch, a Barcelona SC shirt with the number 90 on the back of, to commemorate the club’s anniversary.

And of course, the biggest support in Ecuador did not disappoint. The atmosphere in the
Monumental Banco Pichincha was spectacular throughout the game. The fans did not stop making noise in any moment. They gave a huge ovation to their compatriot Felipao, as he is known in his home country, when he left the pitch. And the supporters were also able to toast a victory, as Barcelona SC beat RCD Espanyol 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Washington Vera in the 61st minute. The blanquiazules had the chance to equalise from the penalty spot, but Sergio García's penalty was saved by Barcelona goalkeeper Lanza. RCD Espanyol kept pushing for a goal until the end, but it was not meant to be. So, it was the hosts who lifted the Copa Euroamericana and celebrated it in style with a fireworks display.

After the game Espanyol coach Sergio González said that taking part in this La Liga World event had been a very positive experience for his club, despite the defeat.
