The final matchday of the 2014 Liga BBVA got underway with a 0-1 win for UD Almería over RC Celta. The Rojiblancos had gone nine matches without a win, but the run came to an end thanks to a goal from Tomer Hemed in the first half and a great performance from their goalkeeper Julián Cuesta.
The highlight of the first half was the goal scored by Almería in the 17th minute. It came from a counter-attack on the right wing, Édgar Méndez whipped the ball into the box and his teammate Tomer Hemed made the most of a defensive error to put the Andalusians ahead.
Three minutes later, it was Julián Cuesta's turn to shine. The player from Granada produced a superb stop against Gustavo Cabral. The final minutes of the first half took place in Julián's box and the Celestes put him to the test several times without finding a way through.
It was a similar story after the restart. Celta persevered with their search for a goal and Orellana came close with a free-kick that hit the bar. Krohn-Deli had another great attempt but his shot across the goal was just wide of its mark.
As he was in the first half, Julián was the hero in the second as he saved a Nolito penalty. The home team kept coming but were consistently met with a well organised Almería defence. In the end it was victory for the Andalusians in their first Liga BBVA match with Juan Ignacio Martínez at the helm.
