Atletico Madrid lacked a cutting edge as they failed to break down PSV Eindhoven's 10 men in their Champions League Round of 16 first leg.
The Rojiblancos had an opening after only three minutes when Luciano Vietto was put through on goal but the Argentine was denied as Jeffrey Bruma cleared his effort off the line. That set the tone for the half. Koke’s attempted lob was easily caught by Jeroen Zoet and then Antoine Griezmann had perhaps the clearest chance as he got behind the PSV backline, only to be denied in the one-on-one by Zoet again.

Jan Oblak also had to be alert. The Slovenian saved point-bank from Davy Propper a minute after Griezmann’s chance and the hosts threatened with their quick counter-attacks before halftime.
Diego Simeone brought on Fernando Torres for Vietto on the hour mark but the Dutch league leaders stood firm until they were reduced to ten men, after Gaston Pereiro picked up a second yellow card for a foul on Uruguayan compatriot Diego Godin.
Atletico pressed looking for a valuable away goal but lacked composure as the hosts lined up men behind the ball, and the tie will have to be decided at the Calderon on March 15.
