Sergio Castel has been decreed the LaLiga SmartBank Player of the Month for January. The UD Ibiza frontman's goals and all round play helped his team to string together a four-game unbeaten streak and rack up 10 points in the first month of the year, hoisting them to 10th in the table.
He scored five goals in the four games played, as well as chipping in with a further two assists. AD Alcorcon, Real Zaragoza twofold, and Malaga CF were the teams on the receiving end of the Madrilenian goalscorer's devastating form, who also played his part in another two goals by turning provider. This establishes him as the top scorer for Ibiza with a total of nine and puts him second in the assists standings with three.
Sergio Castel could not have kicked off his LaLiga SmartBank career in finer fashion and his vision and tireless work in the final third will surely see him remain a stalwart in Paco Jemez's team. He is also a firm favourite with the fans of the Balearic side.
The Celeste number 17 follows in the footsteps of the Girona FC striker, Cristhian Stuani, the recipient of the award in December last year, coming out on top in the voting ahead of the other candidates for the player of the month, including Alex Baena (Girona FC) and Alvaro Aguado (Real Valladolid).
