The Liga de Fútbol Profesional has opened the LFP Meeting on Sports Law. Both Alberto Palomar, a tenured lecturer in Administrative Law, and Javier Tebas, President of the Liga de Fútbol Profesional contributed to the inauguration. The central subject at the meeting was the recent ruling on whether or not regulations on football organisation prevail over the Insolvency Law.

These meetings, organised by the Fundación del Fútbol Profesional, seek to offer high quality sports-law training and are structured in monthly sessions until June 2014. They are organised by Alberto Palomar Olmeda and Antonio V. Sempere Navarro. In the sessions, the most current legislative, jurisprudential and doctrinal issues in Sports Law are analysed from an academic and eminently practical point of view. The meetings deal with matters such as taxation, antifraud measures, match fixing, collective negotiation and labour reforms, disciplinary law, economic controls and the role of foundations, among other things.

The reputable professor Alberto Palomar was responsible for opening the Second Meetings on Sports Law. The first subject to be discussed was that of general interest in matches. On the issue, Alberto Palomar referred to the current European case law, stating the need to recognise certain rights to the owners of football competitions. Professor Palomar, during his speech, insisted on the need for transparency in the management of sports federations. Also, he made reference to the bill which will have significant consequences in this regard.

Another of the subjects touched on during the opening was the sale of exclusive television rights. Alberto Palomar went through a ruling on this subject which casts doubt on its meaning. Palomar stated that exclusively sold and purchased rights cannot be brought into any doubt and that others may not join in with transmitting matches.
