The Granotes overcame champions Athletic to move third, while the table-topping Catalans and second-placed Madrilenians also won.

Atletico Madrid 4-0 Oiartzun KE

Things are looking very bright indeed for Atleti. They carry on winning, recent marquee signing Marta Corredera is already off the mark for the club and they are keeping up the pressure on league leaders Barcelona, who are just two points out in front.

Corredera opened the floodgates 23 minutes into the Liga Iberdrola Matchday 9 curtain-raiser, producing a wicked nutmeg before smashing in a cross-shot that caught out the Oiartzun keeper.

There were no further goals until the second half, namely the 54th minute, when Sonia Bermudez slotted into the gaping net to double the scoreline after Priscila Borja had laid it on a plate for her. Alexandra Lopez made it 3-0 following a well-worked move with 20 minutes to go, before Amanda Sampedro rounded off the rout in the latter stages.

It is now six wins on the spin for the team coached by Angel Villacampa, aka Villa.

UD Levante 3-1 Athletic Club

This match provided the latest evidence that Levante are a real force to be reckoned with, as Andres Tudela's charges stormed back to defeat the reigning champions.

Athletic goal machine Yulema Corres fired her side ahead with a delightful lob in the 10th minute. However, Daniela Montoya equalised with her first goal for Levante midway through the first half, setting the stage for the hosts to complete the comeback in the second period courtesy of strikes from Maria Alharilla and Sonia Prim.

The result leaves the unbeaten Granotes sitting pretty in third spot, while Athletic remain sixth, way off the pace.

Granadilla Egatesa 4-0 Real Betis

Levante aren't the only underdogs who mean business this term: we need look no further than Granadilla for another example. Tony Ayala's team produced one of their best all-round performances of the season to swat Betis aside.

Granadilla were on top in every department and took just 17 minutes to claim the lead through Patri Gavira's header. Virginia (Virgy) Garcia added a second five minutes later and Ayano Dozono weighed in with the third before the break, with Betis powerless to muster any sort of response.

Silvia Doblado sealed the deal a quarter of an hour from the end with one of the goals of the weekend, a chipped finish that left Miriam Lopez with no chance.

After inflicting Betis's third straight defeat in emphatic style, fifth-placed Granadilla – who have only lost once – have narrowed the gap to fourth.

Rayo Vallecano 3-1 F. Albacete

Rayo are another side who are flying. Their early-season woes are but a distant memory and they are now playing some superb stuff while getting results in the process. This convincing victory over Albacete was their third in a row and stretched their undefeated run to four games.

Natalia Pablos opened the scoring in the 11th minute with what was not just her first goal of the campaign, but her first strike for Rayo in two and a half years, having rejoined the club a couple of weeks ago.

Raquel Carreño's penalty increased her side's advantage not long after half-time, before Ali Muñoz reduced the deficit with an excellent effort with just over half an hour to go. However, a second spot-kick, this one converted by Pablos in the 80th minute, put paid to the visitors' resistance.

Rayo are now up to ninth, with only goal difference separating them from Huelva, who occupy the final Copa de la Reina berth at present. Perhaps more importantly, they are now a full seven points above the drop zone.

Zaragoza CFF 2-1 RCD Espanyol

Zaragoza's Pedro Sancho stadium has been an impregnable fortress so far this term and the hosts maintained their undefeated home record here with victory over Espanyol.

The Aragonese outfit got their noses in front on the stroke of half-time courtesy of Alba Aznar's 43rd-minute effort. After the interval, Carla Gomez doubled Zaragoza's advantage, before Elba Verges cut the arrears with 10 minutes remaining to set up a thrilling finale.

However, it proved to be too little, too late for Las Pericas who once again slipped to defeat, as Zaragoza recorded their second home triumph of the campaign. This reverse means that with nine games played, the Catalans are yet to have tasted victory this season and find themselves rooted to the foot of the table.

Real Sociedad 1-2 Sporting Huelva

If we wind the clock back 12 months, Real Sociedad had amassed 19 points by this stage of the season and were sitting pretty in fourth place. However, this time round Igor San Miguel's charges have struggled to hit top form and are languishing in 11th, having picked up just seven points. The Basques once again failed to kick-start their campaign here as they succumbed to their fourth loss.

Vera Diatel handed the Andalusians the lead when a cross from the right found its way to her at the far post and she drilled a powerful effort past La Real custodian Cristina Cornejo (Cris). The hosts fought back and restored parity three minutes before the break through Naiara Beristain, who finished clinically after a neat exchange had put her clean through on goal.

In the very last move of the game, Patricia Sochor's effort from the angle squirmed under Cornejo's body, and despite the best efforts of two defenders to scramble the ball off the line, the referee awarded the goal and Huelva headed away with all three points.

Santa Teresa CD 0-0 Valencia CF

These two sides served up the most fiercely contested encounter of the weekend. Both teams carved out a raft of chances, but, as incredible as it may seem, neither were able to make them count.

By the 15-minute mark, Las Che had been denied by the woodwork on no less than three occasions. However, the visitors nearly saw themselves fall behind, with a last-ditch clearance off the line preventing Santa Teresa from forging ahead.

After the restart, Valencia had several opportunities to make the breakthrough. On 84' the frame of the goal once again came to the hosts' rescue, this time to deny Maripaz Vilas. This stalemate does little for either club's hopes and leaves Valencia in fourth, whilst Santa Teresa lie in seventh place.

FC Barcelona 3-0 UD Tacuense

Las Azulgranas once again delivered the goods, as Xavi Llorens's troops extended their perfect start to the campaign with their ninth win from nine games. Ahead of his side's Champions League last-16 clash on Wednesday, the Barcelona boss shuffled his pack, with Sandra Paños, Leila Ouahabi and Andressa Alves all starting the match on the bench.

With 20 minutes on the clock, the referee awarded the Catalans a penalty after Ange N'Guessan, better known as Koko, was felled in the area. Up stepped Alexia Putellas and whilst Pilar Avila guessed right, she was only able to parry the ball back out to Alexia, who was quickest to react and made no mistake at the second attempt. Barça probed in search of a second but they were frustrated by some fine defensive work from the islanders before the interval.

In the second half, Llorens made a triple substitution as he unleashed Jenni Hermoso, Andressa and Barbara Latorre in an effort to seal victory. His team duly doubled their advantage on 64' when Koko – who was one of her side's standout performers – met the ball at the far post to head home from point-blank range. Barcelona rounded off a comfortable victory when Barbara outwitted the visitors' goalkeeper on a one-on-one to make it 3-0. No further goals were forthcoming as the league leaders go marching on.
