Málaga, Atlético and Villarreal get the best return on goals scored

Goals bring joy, and quite often mean points. But to notch up three points there is no need to win by a three or four goal margin. Málaga, Atlético and Villarreal are well aware of this as a quick look at the standings will tell you.

Simeone's men are leaders of Liga BBVA with 41 points and only 25 goals scored. They have recorded 1.64 points for every goal they have netted. In Villarreal's case, in fourth place with 36 points and 25 goals, this rate is 1.5 points for each goal scored. This is a significant difference when compared to FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Barça and the Whites are second and third, with 40 and 47 goals scored, which means they have recorded 0.97 and 0.78 points respectively for each goal.

But Malaga CF, who have climbed to 11th with 23 points and 13 goals, are the team that get the best value from their goals in Liga BBVA. Javi Gracia's team failed to score a single goal until matchday seven, but since then, every time they have put the ball in the back of the net they have earned 1.76 points.

Diego Pablo Simeone's men are the kings of the 1-0, having won with this scoreline five times so far. The Yellow Submarine have had four 1-0 wins and Malaga two.

Scoring a lot of goals is not the objective, getting points on the board is for this trio.
